South Seas Resort located on the tip of Captiva Island, it doesn't get any more "deserted island" than this. It is the closest
thing we've found to the Caribbean here in the states.
South Seas is the largest of the venues we have listed. They have over 600 rooms that vary from a simple hotel room to beach
homes, all spread across a very large property Even though It is such a big property, it is still rare that they have more than
one wedding on the same day, so their brides typically get extra attention.
For the ceremony:
The Kings Crown lawn: surrounded by tall palms and overlooking the bay, this location is most convenient, located just
outside the Kings Crown banquet room.
The Point: a secluded beach area that is accessed by trolley. Choose to have your ceremony set on the beach itself or a few
feet away on the lawn area. (only lawn area that has an unobstructed view of the gulf).
For the reception:
Kings Crown: Adorable old Florida style with fire places and french doors that open up to a quaint patio.
Presidents Room: Small room just off of the Kings Crown. Great for groups of approximately 25 or less.
On the beach: Just as amazing as you would imagine when it works out, but be prepared for some beach reception issues
you could encounter. Bugs, weather, wind and a hike to the restroom's are just a few problems that you may have to deal with!
Tent: A well decorated and lite tent is always amazing, no matter what island location you choose.
Quarter Deck: beautiful outdoor location with easy access to restroom's and weather back up rooms. This site overlooks the
marina.
Banquet rooms: The resort also has traditional banquet rooms and a large ballroom.
The low down:
* Private resort (gated entrance) *Several coordinators on staff *Sprawling property, trolley provided to get around
(North End - golf, beach and pool activities, South End - more restaurants and shopping) *Great spot for sunset *No cash
property, everything must be room charge *several restaurants, entertainment and services on property, rental car is not
necessary
Editors Tip: Consider a weekday event If you are planning on a budget
Tween Waters If Jimmy Buffet were to plan his wedding on Captiva, I imagine this would be his first choice. The most laid
back atmosphere of the venues we have listed. It's bright colors and crushed shell paths have a very Key West style. It's
non-pretentious atmosphere is perfect for the couple who is looking to experience the true island lifestyle. Have a seat at their
bar, The Crow's Nest, and it won't take long to meet the locals. Boat Captains, artists and retired millionaires are just a few of
the interesting folks you'll find at this popular local hang out.
As for the accommodations, the cottages are adorably quaint, the hotel rooms are more basic. If you're planning your wedding
for Tween Waters, be sure and reserve a cottage.
Tween Waters has a large open beach area located across the street. They often have multiple weddings happening at the
same time but at different ends of the beach. You probably won't see another bride and you probably won't bump into too
many beach-goers, but keep in mind it is a possibility.
Ceremony:
On the beach - Fairly quiet, but it is a public beach
Reception:
Restaurant This room is oozing with charm. French doors and an antique tiled ceiling, it needs little additional decor to make
it breathtaking. Outdoor patio also has the same charm.
Wakefield room: Traditional banquet room, with pastel Florida decor.
The low down: *beach is across the street *Great spot for sunset *Great chef - customized and unusual menus available
(incredible corn bread!) *great bar with live music on property
Editors Tip:
Tween Waters is known for going over board for the holidays. Their Christmas decorations are the best on Captiva, but keep
in mind that they will have them up from Thanksgiving to New Years and they will be on the patio area as well as on the
grounds of the hotel. Great If you are planning a Christmas themed event. Some say it adds to the fun atmosphere, others are
horrified when they arrive to see the massive display of holiday cheer competing with they wedding decor. Also, the hotel
draws a huge crowd for their annual Halloween party. This may cause problems with room availability, parking, noise, etc. Be
sure and ask how it may effect you If you are considering the days around Halloween for your event.

VCB - There are several smaller properties on Sanibel and Captiva Islands, as well as many great wedding venues that are located close to the islands in Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, Bonita Springs and Naples. The Lee County Visitors Bureau offers great information on their website about these other locations.
